THE WORD "ATHLETE"
COMES FROM THE GREEK
AND MEANS EFFORT.
AND THAT MIGHT BE WHY
WE EXCEL AT SPORTS.
From a young age,
we are forced to try 10 times harder.
We tried. We try again.
We combine sport with other work.
And all this is a difficult life.
Still, nothing stops us.
Our victory comes because,
in addition to a lot of effort,
we are talented like Alice Coachman
in 1923, who was the first person
to combine black skin with
the golden
color of the gold medal.
We broke limits, like Wyomia Tyus
in every Olympic game she participated in.
We are brave, like Jesse Owens
defying Nazism in 1936.
We fought to the end like Abebe Bikila
in 1960, who was champion in Rome
even though he ran barefoot.
We are inventive like Daiane dos Santos,
who impressed the whole world with
movements never seen before
in the 2000 games.
We never give up fighting, fighting,
and fighting for our medals.
More than anyone else, we deserve this.
And the world watches our show.
Every black medal is a form of resistance.
Every black medal is won with a lot of effort.
we are forced to try 10 times harder.
We tried. We try again.
We combine sport with other work.
And all this is a difficult life.
Still, nothing stops us.
Our victory comes because,

We are restless and always seeking innovative ways to highlight and question society, but also to celebrate the many achievements of Black people.
